Summary The Head of Application Development provides technical direction and oversight to four development teams tasked with designing, developing, deploying and sustaining solutions that meet business requirements while maintaining design integrity, adhering to best practices and adhering to the firms information technology and security policies and procedures. The individual will be a member of the IT management team and Information Security committee. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Includes the following, other duties may be assigned as needed Provide operational leadership and strategic guidance in the design and development of applications focusing on three areas o Investment Management o Portfolio Trading Operations o Sales Marketing Responsible for the design and documentation of application development and operations practice including but not limited to requirements gathering, coding, work load management, QC and change softwareapplication configuration management practices for firm. Work closely with the business to translate business strategy and objectives into technological capabilities. Ensure proper working group communication on projects. Manage resources to ensure best in class solutions that are high quality, cost effective, secure and market leading. Ensure business area requests for application development are understood, prioritized, and addressed. Work closely with the project management business analysts and be a key conduit to the project office to ensure ongoing coordination of project scopes, timetables, resourcing needs and testing. Advise and participate with the Head of IT Strategy on design strategy and architecture. Work with and coordinate activities and requests with the Director of Infrastructure. Provide leadership, guidance, and motivation to the application development team. Develop and maintain a team that ensures skills and capacity for project and enhancement work while providing superior support for production applications. Assist with staff evaluation to ensure necessary, complete and complimentary skill sets, career paths and training. Maintain knowledge of best practices in information technology, development processes, and software architecture. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Supervisory Responsibilities This job will supervise a team of approximately 20 professionals. Qualifications Thorough understanding of technology, including systems, software applications, data needs and systems integration, necessary to run and support an asset management firm. Strong understanding of the asset management industry. Hands on experience with agile methodology and MVC models. Experience with running the development of cloud-based applications and development of APIs, web services. Dynamic leadership and agent of change capable of influencing the direction of the organization while maintaining a culture where associates are recognized as important assets to the company. Proven experience training, mentoring, and developing team members. Ability to link vision and strategy with overall business objectives and communicate rationale in a compelling, concise manner. Demonstrate a repertoire of skills such as prioritizing, organizing, planning, problem solving, decision-making, attention to detail, and follow through. Strong project management, planning and organizational skills Ability to successfully work under tight project deadlines Education andor Experience B.S. in Computer Sciencerelation field required Masters Degree in Information Technology, Finance andor Business desired. 15+ years of technology experience in systems analysis and program development. 10+ years' of relevant IT experience within financial investment institutions preferred. 10+ years of leadership experience in an organization required.
