The Head of Food Development will be responsible for establishing and growing the Food Development function for Sun Basket, including translating original Sun Basket recipes developed by the Executive Chef/Head of Culinary, developing and implementing them in our facilities, systematically and rapidly improving their quality, driving gross margin improvements in both food and labor cost, and driving automation, particularly on Freshlymade items. The biggest priority for this role initially is to work closely with the EVP of Freshlymade to lead its development from original recipes through implementation to achieve extremely high levels of appeal and quality at launch, and then to drive even higher quality and major gross margin improvements through improvement of both food and labor costs. The Head of Food Development will have and will build a strong team of development managers, chefs and process developers at the central development kitchen and at each site. This position will work closely with the following teams within the Company: senior leadership team, Culinary Creative, Marketing & Branding, Strategic Initiatives, Procurement, Logistics, Freshlymade and other Operations and all related support teams as required by business need. This position may be based out of our West Coast (San Jose, CA) or East Coast (Westampton, NJ) production plants. What you'll do: Co-Select recipes for each week Drive recipe improvements Drive costs by week, and long term, through recipe development and selection Build a pantry of commonly used ingredients Select recipes to minimize waste (i.e. 80/20 in consecutive weeks), and drive long term waste reduction through recipe development Develop and select recipes to maximize customer appeal Work with marketing to maximize customer delight and engagement Work with marketing on promo strategies Work with procurement for new products Work with procurement to manage existing inventories Handle recipe changes inside planning cycle (week 3-week 8) Handle menu changes inside live view (week 1-3) Work with content team to ensure photo, print match desired objectives Work with operations to highlight quality and efficiency issues and solve problems Work with operations to build efficient processes (mfg, supply chain), minimize shrink, and reduce aging and obsolete Partner with customer acquisition and retention teams to achieve objectives Coordinate new item additions with procurement and culinary Logistics coordination Set up and manage NAV items, recipes Who you are and why you're right for us: You have a Bachelors degree in Business or related field, MBA preferred You have a 10- 15 years of progressive leadership responsibilities in business leadership with multiple years at the executive level You understand food production at the most basic and complex levels. You have mastered large scale food production and are able to take recipe specs from creative and scale within our production plants. You are considered a strategic thinker with an open mind to learn and explore new areas and opportunities You have strong proven analytical, financial and P&L capabilities You're an excellent communicator with ability to influence others inside and outside the organization- including senior company leadership and across functional lines You've demonstrated project management skills and have the ability to drive aggressive implementation plans and schedules You're able to work independently as well as collaboratively to create results driven, team-oriented environment. You possess excellent negotiation, interpersonal, presentation, and planning skills You foster strong leadership and management skills to motivate employees and retain critical talent You're highly organized with a strong business acumen Previous start-up experience a plus What types of shifts you may be working: Approximately 40 hours per week. Some overtime may be required. Flexible availability is required. Weekends are required. What else should you know: It's cold and we work in a refrigerated environment. You must be able to work in a cold environment for part or all of your shift. We keep our distribution center at -10-40 degrees constantly. You must be able to transport up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds on occasion. This job is physical. As a Team Member, you will be bending at the waist & neck, raising items above your shoulders, experience repetitive hand usage, pushing & pulling items, twisting at the waist and neck, walking, grasping with light & firm force, and reaching for items frequently. You're comfortable on your feet. You must be able to walk and/or stand for 8-10 hours at a time with or without reasonable accommodation.
